NBA To Propose Fines For Times Who Rest Multiple Stars For Same Game

Sep 11, 2023 12:45 PM

The NBA's Competition Committee has recommended stricter guidelines on resting players for national television games and multiple stars together in the same games.

The Board of Governors will vote on the measure this week.

Under the proposed new rules, teams would be fined $100,000 for a first violation, $250,000 for a second violation and $1 million more than the previous penalty for each additional violation, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The league will define a star by someone who has made an All-Star or All-NBA team in any of the past three seasons.

Hollywood Strikes Could Impact TNT's Bid On New NBA Media Rights Deal

Sep 6, 2023 1:33 PM

The ongoing Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes could impact Warner Bros. Discovery as they look to extend their media rights deal with the NBA.

WBD is the parent company of TNT.

According to a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, the strikes have negatively impacted its projected full-year adjusted earnings by about $300 million to $500 million.

“While WBD is hopeful that these strikes will be resolved soon, it cannot predict when the strikes will ultimately end,” the company said. “With both guilds still on strike today, the company now assumes the financial impact to WBD of these strikes will persist through the end of 2023.”

WBD officials have downplayed the potential impact on sports.
