AEG Executive Wants 2013 ASG In Los Angeles

Feb 26, 2011 4:47 PM

AEG president and CEO Tim Leiweke wants to see the NBA's 2013 All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

This season's event was held in L.A. at the Staples Center last weekend.

"I think we're going to go right back after it," Leiweke said. "We'll work with the Lakers and the Clippers to see if either of them want to host it.

"Neither one of them have hosted an All-Star Game in a long time. If either of them want to do it, we'd certainly be partners with them and that would add a twist to the bid. But I think the league, the players, the team owners, everyone had such a great time, and for the city to have a $100 million economic impact like we did here, it would certainly be great to get them right back here."

Orlando is set to host the 2012 All-Star Game.

Clippers Were Nervous About Griffin Jumping Over Car

Feb 21, 2011 6:12 AM

The Clippers became nervous when they realized Blake Griffin was planning to dunk over a car during Saturday night's slam dunk contest.

"I noticed when I went in for my rehearsal Thursday night, everybody from the Clippers was there. All our upper management and then I realized, everybody is kind of nervous about this," Griffin said. "So I jumped over it and I kind of looked at them and they are like, 'All right, you can do it.' I understand why, but I guess they don't trust me enough."

Griffin missed all of last season with a broken kneecap.

During the team's long road trip leading up to the All-Star break, Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro asked Griffin what he was planning for the dunk contest.

"He already knew what I was going to do, so I just played dumb and acted like, 'I don't know yet, man, I don't know,' " Griffin said.

Griffin Gives Dunk Trophy To Family Of Late Friend

Feb 20, 2011 10:59 AM

Blake Griffin plans to give the trophy he won in Saturday night's Slam Dunk contest to the family of high school teammate Wilson Holloway, who died Wednesday after a long battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

"I wanted to do this, not just for myself but for him," Griffin said. "I think I'm actually going to give this [trophy] to his family. That's why I really wanted to win."

Griffin learned of Holloway's death Wednesday night after the Clippers defeated the Timberwolves.

He plans to fly straight to Oklahoma City after Sunday's All-Star Game to attend Holloway's funeral on Monday.

"It's kind of a good thing that I've been so busy," he said. "It doesn't leave you time to think about it."

Wall Wins MVP, Sets Assist Record In Rookie Challenge

Feb 19, 2011 12:06 PM

John Wall starred with 12 points and 22 assists in Friday night's Rookie Challenge, winning the MVP award and setting a record for assists in the annual game.

The Rookies defeated the Sophomores 148-140 at the Staples Center.

"My intentions wasn't to come in and get the MVP," Wall said. "Just tried to have fun. I wanted to break the assists record, to show guys that I'm not the type of person that wants to shoot the ball every time. In this type of game, I was looking for my teammates and they did a good job of getting open and finishing for me."

The rookie team was coached by Knicks All-Star Amar'e Stoudemire.

Players Uninterested In NHL-Style All-Star Draft

Feb 19, 2011 11:46 AM

The NBA's All-Stars don't think adapting the NHL's new All-Star rules would work.

The NHL selected two captains and allowed them to choose their teams at the league's All-Star weekend.

"No, because Eastern Conference, Western Conference, we don’t like each other," LeBron James said when asked if the practice would work in the NBA. "We wouldn’t pick somebody from the Western Conference to be over here with us, and I don't think they would, either. I don't think it would work."

Dwyane Wade took it one step further, saying that if Kevin Garnett were a captain he wouldn't pick certain rivals.

"But K.G. would pick all of his teammates, and he wouldn’t pick any of the Heat, so it would be all messed up," Wade said with a laugh. "That might be fun."

Griffin Unfazed By All-Star Workload

Feb 19, 2011 11:32 AM

Blake Griffin has a busy All-Star weekend schedule, but the Clippers rookie is unfazed by the workload.

Griffin was selected to take part in Saturday night's Slam Dunk Contest, in addition to Friday night's Rookie-Sophomore Game and Sunday night's All-Star game.

"Originally, I agreed to do the slam dunk, and then they said I made the Rookie Game, so that was cool," Griffin said. "Fortunately I was able to make the big game, so why not? I'd rather do it that way. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so you take advantage of it."

Did he ever think about cutting back on his schedule?

"Nobody actually gave me that option," he said with a smile.
