Enes Kanter Uncertain To Play In Conference Semifinals With Separated Shoulder

Apr 27, 2019 2:04 AM

Enes Kanter's status for the Western Conference semifinals remains uncertain after he suffered a separated shoulder against the Oklahoma City Thunder in game 5.

"I think the Blazers are doing a very good job taking care of it. But, I mean obviously, I'm not going to lie, it hurts pretty bad. I mean I'm having a hard time changing my shirt or eating food. So it's a process. We're just taking it day by day, see how it feels," said Kanter.

Kanter added that he will eventually have to push through the injury.

"They just said it's a separation, it's normally around a month to just heal it. But I mean, you don't have a month to take off, so I'm just going to push through it."

Clint Capela is currently battling two respiratory illnesses.

Capela missed a practice due to illness days before the Houston Rockets' first round series started, said he was diagnosed with adenovirus and a klebsiella infection during a Sunday visit to a Salt Lake City doctor, who prescribed medication and eye drops.

Capela has been told he won't be better for another four or five days.

"It's tough, man," Capela said. "Especially when I try to breathe, it's hard. I'm just going to fight it the best that I can."

Joel Embiid Doubtful For Game 4 With Sore Knee

Apr 19, 2019 8:12 PM

Joel Embiid is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game 4 with a sore knee.

Embiid sat out game 3 with the same injury, and missed 14 out of the final 24 games in the regular season.

Brett Brown said the 76ers need to keep buying Embiid time to return.

"It's always best to plan that you don't have him and be really surprised and happy when you do. I think that my belief and shared with Joel and our management and owners and so on is we're in a phase, we're in a stage where we're buying time. Can we get a win and buy a few more days? Can we get another win and buy, like, a few more days? We might lose, but you're alive -- buy three more days. And so, this is just the path that we're on with Joel. There is zero doubt he is our crown jewel and just with the phase and stage and how it's played out, to my best ability, this is how I see the world nowadays," said Brown.

Joel Embiid Sits Out 76ers Win With Sore Knee, Says He Has To 'Trust The Process'

Apr 19, 2019 2:18 AM

Joel Embiid sat out the Philadelphia 76ers' 131-115 win over the Brooklyn Nets with left knee tendinitis. It is the same injury which caused him to miss 14 out of the last 24 games to close out the season.

"It's tough. That's what tendinitis is all about. And some days you got your days, and some other days is different. So, even in the games that I play, I just try to go out there and try to play for these guys...It is becoming better slowly but surely. We just have to be smart about how we handle it every single day. But I'm sure these guys won't let me get on the court if there's a chance of something bad happening. So I just got to trust the process," said Embiid.

Greg Monroe started for Embiid and finished with 9 points and 13 rebounds. The win puts the Sixers up 2-1 in the series.

Tobias Harris added that playing without Embiid forced his teammates to step up.

"Towards the end of the regular season we really didn't play that well without Joel. So, for us, it was kind of hearing that he wasn't playing, a little added motivation I think for us as a group of, 'Hey, we got our best player down, we all got to pay it up and step it up and stick to the game plan and be even more focused.'"

DeMarcus Cousins Will Not Need Surgery, Unlikely To Return In Playoffs

Apr 18, 2019 12:31 AM

Steve Kerr revealed that DeMarcus Cousins will not need surgery on his torn quad but will probably miss the rest of the playoffs.

"He will not need surgery. DeMarcus, most likely, will not be back during the playoffs. You're probably looking at a couple months' recovery, so it's unlikely. But Rick [Celebrini, Warriors director of sports medicine and performance] told me that there are occasions where that injury heals faster. So we're leaving the door open, obviously," said Kerr.

Andrew Bogut and Kevon Looney will be relied upon to replace Cousins' minutes.

"I knew I was coming in as an insurance policy, to an extent. A guy that could [fit] in straight away that knows the system offensively and defensively, knows the guys. ... I definitely didn't anticipate starting in the playoffs. But unfortunately you get a freak injury to DeMarcus and those are the circumstances we're in," said Bogut.
